So, how do you care for a lectern?

Caring for a lectern is not a one-product-suits-all scenario. Depending on the material your lectern is made from dictates the best steps to take. One great tip that is key for all lecterns is a clean, soft cloth to keep them dust and smudge-free. It’s also important to think about how you store your lectern, especially if you travel with it.

Read on to find out more about the different ways you can care for your lectern.

Caring For An Acrylic Lectern

Proper care for your acrylic lectern is really simple. Neglecting to clean your lectern regularly could result in dust and dirt build-up, and a higher risk of scratches to the surface which may be difficult to remove, if possible at all. To clean your acrylic lectern, follow these simple steps:

  1. Get yourself a dry, lint-free or microfibre cloth. Use this to remove any dust or dirt on the surface. Acrylic can scratch easily so make sure your cloth is clean.

  2. Using warm soapy water, dampen your cloth and clean your lectern thoroughly.

  3. Leave your lectern to dry and buff with a dry, soft cloth if needed.

  4. To get the ultimate perfect finish use an expert product such as Vuplex polish. An anti-static polish, this can clean and protect your acrylic and leave it smudge-free.

  5. Repeat these steps regularly to make sure dirt doesn’t build up to reduce the risk of scratches.

TIP: Don’t use any glass cleaning products on acrylic lecterns due to the chemicals they contain. Products containing ammonia can tarnish the film and dull the appearance of your acrylic lectern.

Caring For a Wooden Lectern

Follow the following steps If you have a wooden lectern. If wooden furniture isn’t correctly cared for, it can result in dirt build-up, stains and even mould and water damage.

  1. You should use a damp microfibre cloth to remove any dust or dirt.

  2. Pay attention to cleaning any corners to ensure you don’t get dust building up.

  3. If there are any stubborn marks or stains, try a simple household cleaning staple, white vinegar. Mix one part vinegar to one part water in a spray bottle to make it easier to use. This should gently remove anything without harming the wooden finish.

  4. You can use a wood-specific polish if you feel your lectern needs some extra shine.

TIP: Always make sure your cloth is damp, not wet, as too much water can cause serious damage to wood surfaces.

Caring For a Glass Lectern

A glass lectern may take a little more effort to care for. Glass is known for being tricky to get looking clean, and streaks on glass are common. Not caring for your glass lectern correctly or regularly could lead to scratches, a dull appearance and visible dirt.

  1. You can use an appropriate glass cleaner and a clean, dry cloth. If there is anything printed on your glass, such as a logo, ensure you do not spray your cleaning solution directly onto it.

  2. Glass is known to be difficult to clean and keep smear-free, so using a clean microfibre cloth to buff the surface can help achieve a streak-free finish.

  3. Clean regularly to keep your lectern looking its best.

TIP: Using a homemade solution of water and white vinegar can give you just as good results as a specific glass cleaning product.

How To Store Your Lectern

When your lectern is not in use, consider covering it up with a lectern cover to keep it clean, dust dust-free and reduce the risk of scratches. Lecterns made from acrylic, wood and glass should be kept in a cool, dry environment. If your lectern is being stored away for longer periods of time, consider a hard lectern case to ensure your furniture isn’t gathering dust or at risk of damage.
